Just bought a new 64bit computer using Windows 7 and tested my MS Access connection to MYSQL with my other computer running Linux (Ubuntu) over a home network. I was really surprised at the the performance improvement.
It was able to cycle through 1,400 author names on the new computer in less then 2 seconds with the new computer versus the 11 minutes on my old Windows XP computer. As a quick assumption, it would point to the Ethernet port as being a culprit. The only problem with that presumption is that the connection to the internet was fast as was the "dump" of the author names from the Ubuntu computer to the old Window XP computer. I suppose there could have been some sort of configuration issue with Access. This is one of those issues that I never got around to further investigating or solving.
Since, I have migrated all my stuff to the new computer, this concern is solved. Basically just an FYI should someone else be experiencing a slow ODBC connection for some unknown reason.
