I have been reading the posts on both replicating databases and using FE/BE.

I have created 4 databases that tie together to act as one database through linked tables. I understand that i need to split
the databases and leave the tables in the back end whilst everthing else goes in the front end of the databases. I also understand that i can create an MDE for the front end.
I believe that was right.

Would the correct process go something like this?

1) Make backup copies of all databases and store on say a CD/R.
2) Make another copy of all databases just in case.
3) Split all databases to a single share (same directory, will
not change ) on a server, server security already applied
beforehand.
4) Create MDE of Front End distribute to users.
5) Use copy of original MDBs to use for updating code.

Thanks for any applicable responses.

You have the theroy down, and I love the ways you stress the backup. That one will get you every time if your not careful. What I would do, since you have various databases, is make the backups and split them. Create a new MDB that only contains a navigational menu to the other FE systems you have. Compile that as you MDE and ditribut it. Now, whenever you need to make adjustments to either FE or BE structures, you do so to copies of the backups and just replace the existing copies with the enhanced versions. The only things the users will need on thier systems are simplistic little (easily dloaded) MDEs that may contain only 1 form.

Thanks.

Thanks Jeremie, i appreciate the help. I apologize for the delay in responding to your post. I will respond immediately next time.

That was a good idea to use only an FE portal through to the other databases.
