Does anyone know how to stop a requery causing the app to flicker.??

The Echo command might help hide the flicker. Check the help files for more info on using the Echo command.

The more features on your form that are dynamically formatted, the worse your flickering will be.

I.e. on one of my forms, the label associated with the text boxes would change colors depending on what was in the box. A requery flickered because it did a reload of the initial value of each label (which was black letters) followed by the FormCurrent event that changed the labels wholesale.

So if you are doing anything even remotely similar to that, you are going to see some flickering. The more dynamic formats, the more it will flicker. The slower the machine, the more it will flicker.

The only way to stop flickering is to minimize any dynamic formatting or buy a MUCH faster machine.

to add to what The_Doc_Man has just said, I have a form which has a Ontimer event, and in the ontimer event I have to have the subforms requery when user scans a barcode.

the reason I needed Ontimer is because it needed to check for a entry in a text box, as it needed to lose focus so the coding could see the entry.

To make a long story short, I had IF statements to check if there is an entry, if there was none then the requery statements were bypassed so the form would not flicker as much as if it was running all the time.

does this help?

Thanks guys. My flickering was actually cause by unassociated labels (its an MS bug apparently) I just associated the labels with textboxes and it's fine.
I still have some of the flickering caused by the things you mention but it is at an acceptable level.
