I would like to integrate RFID and Barcode on my access database any thoughts on this subject matter? Any feed back will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

well you don't really need to Integrate anything, you just need a scanner/Reader that will pass the data with a <CR>, and you would need a Printer like ZEBRA that can Print the RFID ( I assume you need it as a Label)

Thanks for the quick response everyone. Does anybody have a sample database with rfid or barcode?

rex were trying to tell you that your database will be no different than as if you were typing into fields, but what you will need is to have a dedicated PORT in order for Data to always pass to the Database whether or not it is the active application...unless you don't see that as an issue?

Like some of the others are saying. The database itself does not really care if the information being fed into it is from a barcode or not. meaning: the field in the database will accept whatever is encoded in the barcode as long as the data matches the data type of the field so on and so forth.

You can get some pretty inexpensive USB scanners. The Symbol LS2208 works very well. This works great for a desktop or laptop computer.

So getting data into the database from a barcode is a piece of cake.

If you want to print barcodes from data already in Access, like on reports or something, that's another matter. there are a lot of 3rd party plugins that work well with Access.

Remember, if you have a barcode and a scanner attached to your PC, you can scan the barcode into any application where you can type. And the USB scanners that I have used are simply plug and play.

By the way, I print all kinds of reports and labels from my Access databases with barcodes. It is a great way to speed up data input and improve accuracy.

good Points Razor, I forgot about the barcode Fonts... we use WASP and Labelview Labelview works with Zebra Printers, which are good for Highoutput...and you need a special printer that handles Printing onto RFID....for normal barcodes just use WASP.

* with custom label sizes, you sometimes have to create them in the Printer "Server" Properties

Yes, you can use regular barcode fonts or look into activeX plugins.

Depending on how much you inted to do you might want to look into Bartender. It's a great program for designing labels ( a little easier for heavy duty label designing needs than Access). And you can link to the Access tables from the Bartender program.

The cheapest scanners are the wands, but I have not had much luck with them.

We actually have an Access database that we use for cycle counting in our warehouse. I designed the database as all our product has barcodes. We use a small laptop and the Symbol LS 2208 scanners. We put the laptop on a little cart and just wheeel it around and scan. You get full screen and mobility, works great.
