Hi,
I have 2 columns in my monthly statement, Debit and Balance

Debit =Sum([tblTrxDetail]![WSPrice]*[tblTrxDetail]![WSQty])

Balance =Sum([tblTrxDetail]![WSPrice]*[tblTrxDetail]![WSQty]), Running Sum Over Group

It works just fine if the report is in Print Preview.
But if in Report View, the Balance does not show immediately at the 2nd last line, the figure appears when i move my pointer to that line. Even so, the running sum is incorrect for these two lines. Then as i scroll down the page, things appear even more strange to me.

when the Report View is first Opened.
Code:
Debit Balance
3208.60 3208.60
2498.00 5706.60
 700.00 6406.60
  53.00 6459.60
1037.00 7496.60
 607.50 8104.10
2277.00 10381.10
  36.50 10417.60
 154.50 10572.10
1084.40 11656.50
 479.70 12136.20
 247.20 12383.40
 272.50 <--- Empty
 486.00 6804.00 <--- Wrong Amount
After i scroll 3 lines down, such that the top 3 lines is out of visible area,
the Balance changes back to normal and correct.

As i scroll to the 4th line, this is what i see
Code:
Debit Balance
 700.00 2100.00
  53.00 2153.00
1037.00 3190.00
 607.50 3797.50
2277.00 6074.50
  36.50 6111.00
 154.50 6265.50
1084.40 7349.90
 479.70 7829.60
 247.20 8076.80
 272.50 8349.30
 486.00 8835.30
I have no idea why the running sum changes itself from 6406.60 to 2100.00
Why is it that Print Preview Works ok but not Report View?
Would appreciate if someone knows the problem.
Thanks.

Running sum works with a control; it has nothing to do with what you are doing.

One cannot tell what section of your report you're performing the calculations.

Sum in a group footer not in the detail section of a report.

Thank you for the reply.:)

i have no details to show in this report, so in it's property visible is set to 'no'.

'Debit' itself is a sum of the Price x Quantity.
'Balance' is supposed to be a running balance of Debit.
Both are already grouped into the header TrxRecID which is essentially the invoice number.

the part i do not understand is why my PRINT PREVIEW is perfect but REPORT VIEW is wrong.
i am expecting to see both views wrong if i did something wrong.

it appears that i might have difficulty explaining what is happening.
is there anyone who can tell me how best to present my problem for a much clearer picture?:(
i am using Access2007

Can you explain what you mean by Report View. As far as I was aware reports have only 2 views which are Design or Print Preview. Additionally there is a Layout View but that does not necessarilly show accurate data.

Kevin,

There are 4 views in Access 2007
1. Report View
2. Print Preview
3. Layout View
4. Design View

Access reporting events are not intuitive.

I think that you're using "Running Sum" in an invalid manner.

thank you llkhoutx,
i think i might have got the solution.
i'll try to attach a sample database to explain what i saw and what i did.

I have managed to extract a sample from my database to show the error.

at first it seemed consistent with the errors i mentioned with the report without creditor address.
but after i removed the actual creditor address from tblCreditors, the behaviour appears on both reports using qryStatement.
i remember reading somewhere that we should try not to sum using query, and use the running sum in the report instead, but the last report is the only way i can get it to work.

i really curious what is happening, and what is the best way to avoid or solve my problem. i appreciate any comment, thanks.
