My company are wanting to go down the SAP route.
Basically how do this work and how do you design a database ?
Do you create a user interface somehow (does SAP have it's own interface like an Access frontend ?) and then have the data stored separate like in SQL server
? Do you need any knowledge of programming ?

Hmm, this question is kind of broad.

No, you do not need to know how to design a database nor do you need to know any programming. Anything that needs to be customized is normally handled by the Vendor.
SAP has it's own UI

I also know they offer training for use of the software/system.

With that said, the data can be exported and then imported to Access for further manipulation/reformatting.
