Hello all,

Can someone tell me why a "Save As" dialog occasionally appears when I'm closing a form that already has a valid name? Can I get past this because it causes many problems?
I've been having this problem when editing forms. While making changes, if I try to close the form or save changes, this dialog comes up "forcing" me to enter a name to give the form. Well, the form already has a name.
Last time I made the mistake of entering the actual form name(because I didn't want to lose my changes). When I did that, many forms in the database wouldn't work at all. For it to work, I had to re-import the forms from an old copy of the database.
This time, I didn't want this to happen again so I closed w/o saving the changes. But the same "goofy" thing happened.

Is this something that I can avoid? Because it's a real pain.
Thanks.

Maybe I don't understand your question,

Is anyone else using the database and on that current form when you are trying to save the changes, if so, then you won't be able to until they are out...

I'm the only one

Thanks for responding.

I am the only person working on this db. This is the second time that this has happened. When the "Save As" dialog came up, I didn't save any of the changes and closed the form I was working w/, hoping that I could start from where I began w/ no changes, but it did the same thing. Namely, rendered a whole bunch of forms useless.

When I tried to open some of the forms, it gave me an error message that the "module could not be found" even when the form existed and was named correctly. I went to debug and, sure enough, the OpenForm method did not recognize a form name. A method that previously worked fine. Tried to import form's into a new db w/ no success either.

If anyone could clue me in on what's going on because this problem has trashed several days worth of work.

Thanks.

Could it possibly be a virus that's infected my machine? I'm going to work on a different PC and see if the same thing occurs.

Same thing happened on another machine

I'm very displeased to say that the same problem has happened on another machine. It seems that it's different everytime it occurs. This time after I got the Save as... dialog, it seemed that everything was OK. I deleted the form that Access "forced" me to create and everything "seemed" fine. However, now the form that I was working on will not close when I click Close on the form's controlbox and the Application will not close either once this form has been opened. I had to Ctrl, Alt, Delete to get out. This has happened to more than one form.

Again, I have lost several days of work. Thanks to the backup copy, all is not lost. I'm getting quite frustrated though. Understandably, my client is becoming impatient and quite leery of MS-Access. I've searched on Google and found a few instances of the same problem, but no resolutions. Due to the lack of responses to the previous threads, I'm assumming that I'm on my own here. Just wanted to put this out there, in case, someone has had this occur.

Thanks.

Re: Same thing happened on another machine

Isn't access beautiful and full of bugs?
Re-install office...

Otherwise youll get messages like "Disk or Network error"
"Form is not found" "MSAccess has generated errors and stopped"...the list goes on...

If you visit MS's website they list out that these are known issues by MS haha...have fun.

Jon,

Thanks so much for the reply! When I didn't get any respones to this post, I had figured that I was doing something wrong (which I haven't ruled out yet either???). I do believe I had re-installed Office. None-the-less, I will try it again though. I'm willing to do anything at this point.

Thanks again!!!!
