Yes, it will work. Tried the first version, too at home. Be sure to resize the tab control. Remove the header/footer sections. Change the default view.

I have a similar issue

I have text on my form in the header and detail sections. In the design view, I am able to see fields in both section; however in the form view, I am only able to see the header section. Is this the same issue you are experiencing?
