Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, I have created a microsoft access database for my work. I am at a loss though, I need to secure the database so that certain users are able to add information to the forms that I have linked in the switchboards. These users must be able to add information but not be able to modify any information that has been entered previously. I then need another login for a different group of users to be able to have full access to the data in the database, be able to modify information and to be able to add aswell.

I have set this up but when you actually log in to the database it does not seem to distinguish different passwords for different users.

Then when i went to use access for something else completely different it appeared to still be prompting for the log in and password. If anyone there has any ideas on solving this problem, or if anyone is able to tell me where I am going wrong I would really appreciate it.

Thankyou for your time.

Regards

Jodi

Hello Jodi

I'm still very much on a learning curve with access myself but feel I might be able to offer you something to help you here. I have previously setup user level security and had all sorts of problems setting this up. Here is the post I had on this subject it might help you to read through my mistakes. I personally used the security wizard but there are other ways. You can set your own workgroup file up without the wizard and Pat Hartman has posted a very good example on these boards I'll see if I can find this for you.

In the meantime here is my post

Hope this helps

Jodi:

You need to read the Microsoft Faq about Access security. Read it several times as there is a lot to learn about security to successfully implement it. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/access/content/secfaq.asp

When you create a secured database you also create a .mdw file that stores your user permissions. If you overwrite the default security group when you create this group you will always get the login screen. In addition everyone must use the shortcut created by the wizard to get into the secured database as it is what calls the particular security file.

Your posting is vague as to what you have done to set up the security and how you are trying to use it. If you post some more detail I'll try to help.
