Security Confussion

I created a security file for my database. I placed this in my Securitytry folder on drive D:. I cna get this to work exactly how I want it to, and copied it to my distribution folder. So far so good.

I then went into the workgroup administrator and told it I wanted to join the normal access default security file, which on my XP system is:

C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.mdw

I thought by joining this workgroup all my "normal" permissions would be returned, and I could carry on as usual.

However, now when I load the application to run, I get into the main menu, find a client and then select that client to open the analysis form and I get an error that tblResults is not available as I do not have the appropriate permissions etc.

I thought, as the application is FE/BE I may have not reset the security from this end. So I reset it. But it makes no difference. I am confused as I am not an expert on security by a long way.

Hope someone can help.

I printed and read this twice and then took a day to try out some of the scenarios on a test PC. (I've forgotten most of what I read but this would be where I would return if I were in need.)

Thanks I downloaded that file yesterday, but haven't gone through it yet.

If you want to get your security settings back to the way they were, you need to rejoin the default System.mdw file. The files should be @ C:\Windows\System\System.mdw (depending on your OS). If you altered the original System.mdw file when you were creating your security permissions, then you have another problem. You do not want to alter the original System.mdw file nor do you want to join your users to a security file.
