Hi,
I would like to build a database which only a few people will be able to access and no one will be able to change the data.

What are the ways in which a database can be made secure and read only for everyone other than the administrators?
Thanks.

Sounds like you want User/Group Level security.
Group A - read only
Group B - Administrator(s) - Access to everything.

For an excellent overview of Access security, go to:

download the first file – Security Paper by Jack Macdonald. It’s a little long but it tells you everything you need to know.

Joe's point is well taken.
Almost everything in Access can be learned by trial and error except security. You will no doubt mess it up more than once as you are learning it.
Always make a copy of your database and practice on the copy. You can correct errors but if it's totally fouled up it's easier to just delete and start again.
