It's time to implement my shiny new database, which will involve putting it on our network so users in many departments can access it at once. I need the permissions because I want only a few users to be able to enter/change data and the rest to view only and run queries/reports. I ran a copy of the DB through the security wizard, and it appeared to be functional onthe other end, so I have just a couple of questions about basic security things:
1. Do I need to split the database into a front and back end? (there are only about ten users max)
2. Are there any common problems using a security structure can cause in a database? Anything I should prepare for?
3. What exactly are the secured (.mdw) and unsecured copies the wizard makes, and do they update at the same time? Does that interfere with backups?
Basically, I haven't tinkered with this sort of thing before, and I don't want to trash my DB on some obvious point. Any sage advice would be appreciated!
