Hi,

A reply to one of my questions was

"Deleting the subform control does not delete the form object. Look under the list of forms and you will find it. "

Can someone please tell me where this 'list of forms' is found. I've been looking and Googling for several hours! No luck.

I assume it does exist?

Thanks.

For versions up to Access 2003 take a look here

For Access 2007, select the dropdown on the sidebar (on the left) and select Object Type. You should then be able to select Forms from the same dropdown.

When you open Access, unless you've done something to run a form immediately, the Objects window opens. On the left side you'll see a list of objects, Reports, Queries, Forms, etc. Click on Forms. This is normally the place where people go to create forms, as well as most other objects. You can bring this to the fore at any time by pressing <F11>.

Aahh.. thanks Guys. I know what you mean (I see that in Excel)
but my Access 97 has what I've come to know as the 'Database Window' with a Forms tab. Guess that's it's equivalent... BUT there's no subForms showing there.

My problem was, after deleting a subForm, I couldn't replace it because Access kept telling me one with that name already exists.

When I was told "Deleting the subform control does not delete the form object. Look under the list of forms and you will find it" I assumed that meant you had to delete something else, but now I think he meant delete the whole form.

In the end I created another Form and started again.

So, is it correct, you cannot delete a SubForm and use that name again (for another subForm)? You must delete the whole Form ?

That doesn't sound quite right.

There are a bunch of form objects in your database

Subforms are just forms - the main thing that makes them different from other forms is that you may have created from one inside another form, using a subform wizard.

But they're form objects in your database window, just like any other form -one subform object can be embeeded as a subform in one parent form, or in lots of different ones.

Removing a subform from its parent (in form design mode) does not delete the underlying subform object from your database.

However, if you remove the subform object from all parent forms where it appears, and delete the underlying subform object (from the database window), you should be able to use the same subform name again.

Ahhh... it all becomes clear-ish. I was looking for a subForm, not the actual form. In design mode, I'd deleted the subform and Access wouldn't let me drag it back in again, it said the name already existed... so I was looking for that name to delete. I didn't want to delete the actual source Form (what you call the underlying subform object?). That's what I was trying to reapply to receive the error message. I still don't think Access is right... the subForm 'name' (that Access gives it after you drag it in) didn't exist... but what the heck. I deleted everything and started again!
