Need to insert a sequential number every time a report is run. Think you have to set a dummy table called Report with Report No the only field. Need the report to reference that table and then add one number on and then store that value in the Report Table.

Any help greatly app.

can't fully understand what you're trying to do but i guess that you want each detail of the report be numbered sequentially. if i'm right, then here's my suggestion:

1. position a textbox on the detail section you want numbered
2. set the Control Source of the textbox to =1
3. set the Running Sum of the textbox to Over All

The sequential number needs to be in the header i.e Im running production notes and each time someone runs a production note report they get a new ref i.e PROD001 etc helps our audit trail to track documents

Sorry for the confusion - thanks for the reply

think you are on the right track here... create a table tblReportRef and an update query that increments it. when you call your report, first run the update query. on your report add a dlookup field to get the incremented number.
