I am nearing completion of a database which will require securing - a task I have never done before. I have read through various threads and looked at the MS Help & FAQ. It does not seem to easy, although I accept I have not tried yet.
What would be helpful is a few basic pointers/steps on how I should proceed. I am building the database on a stand alone PC. It then needs to be shared on a server between 10 users with the following requirements:
- Some users will need access to certain forms in add mode only (can view any existing records)
- 3 people will need access to view, add or amend information and view all reports
- 2 as above but viewing a reduced set of reports
- 1 user to access to view, add or amend information, view all reports and use one query
- 1 user (me) access to everything
Should I user the Wizard for this or can I just use the Tools Security User Group Permissions & User Groups and Accounts?
Can I set this up on my PC first?
Only this database needs this security. They & I have other databases which are used and have no security on. These should not be affected by the database which is being secured.
I am sure I will have other questions but it would help if there are a few pointers, good tips, pitfalls to be aware of which can be identified before I commence.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
