setting up a stock table?

i have a db in development, but it will have a starting stock which will be rented out and returned. i know the calculation is by query, but there would need to be a record of an opening stock from which the calculations will be done.
where do i place the opening stock?

personally, i would create a transaction of type "opening stock", and put it in the same table as your other stock transactions

its just another transaction, is the way to look at it.
