Setting up user accounts to access a database

I've created a database and I now need to set up user accounts for access to it, so that I can restrict who has read only and who has write only permissions.

I've done this before and never had a problem! But this time, whenever I try and create a new account, the following message is displayed:

Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.

Can anyone help as to why I get this message and what I can do to stop it! Whilst it does this, I can't create any user accounts.

Any help would be appreciated!!

One thing to check - if you imported the database into your computer and you are using Windows XP - check the properties of the file. You may see a area on the properties window that says the file is locked or something like that. I have seen it before - I don't think I have the nomenclature quite right, but check the properties of the database file.
