I have a desktop machine running Windows XP Professional, and a Freecom external usb hardrive attached to it.
When i create a shared file on the internal drive of the XP machine I can access it with no problems from my HP Vista laptop via a wireless network. However if a create a shared folder on the external drive, I cannot access it from the laptop. I get a message about permissions, with a comment about "insufficient server space to excecute command" included.
I have tried creating the shared folder on a usb stick, can access it ok from laptop, have also tried creating a shared folder on a second external drive, this I cannot access. The problem seems related to the fact the drives are external usb.
The fact I can access the shared folder on the internal drive and the usb stick from the Vista laptop leads me to believe there are no issues between the XP machine and the Vista machine. All folder shares have full access permissions, the XP machine has my laptop account name, and this is associated with the remote desktop group. I have full administrator privillages on both machines. I have had a similar set-up in the past using external drives with no problems, except all machines were XP.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanx in advance
