Hi,

Im trying to share a database with 12-16 other people and would like to know how can I set up this sharing database and what problems/issues i have to deal with.

What happens when 2 people try to save or create something new at the same time? I did a test run and it kept saying "Another person has this DB open, you need exclusive rights". But the DB is set to shared in Advanced Tab.....

Any help or advice would be greatly appreicated.

Many thanks

Daz

You need to split the db to front end and back end (search for splitting database in help on this forum as there are many posts on this topic.) After splitting the db, put the back end on a common server where everyone of your users has access to and... presto... instant multi-user environment!

Hi there,

There are few things you can do:

1. If you haven't already done so, split the database so that you have a back end (BE) which contains your tables and a front end (FE) containing your queries, forms, reports etc. Place the BE on a server in a shared folder. Ensure all your users have access rights to that folder via NT security. Put the FE on each of your users machines and make sure they are linked to the BE.

2. Double check the permission settings on your network.

3. You mention the following:

What happens when 2 people try to save or create something new at the same time?

are you talking about adding/amending/deleting data or creating their own queries / forms etc?

If its about the data then just check to make sure that the default open mode is set to shared and that you have default record locking set to no locks

Thanks

Ok great, thank you both so much for your support.

I apologise if this was revisiting old posts but i didnt quite understand the Front and Back idea.

Looking through old posts now, thanks again.
