I have used an expression build to basically do a tax calculation. its abit like this [Cost ex VAT]*(1+[Valueaddedtax]![VAT]/100). right this should give a value with tax add and it does but not in a currency format? the field isn't in a table so i can't format it like i would do in a table. how do i do it!! please help an access newbie

In a unbound text box try:

=(([Ex Vat]*(1+([Vat Level]/100))

Then format this box to Currency

what i didn't say was that it needs to be formatted in the quaery itself

Why?

If you want to see the results of a query, you should use a report, where you can then format the data and add £ signs etc.

Queries should only be used to underpin queries / forms, not as stand alone objects themselves

thanks for getting back to me... i know what you are saying and yes it is to populate a report. however my uni prof. wents to check every F@cking table and query to make sure there set up right. its stupid but somthing thats got to be worked out.

Are you writing your query in design view or sql?

Is possible to do in design view, not sure about sql

Click on the field name of the one you want to change the format of in the columns underneath your table

Click right mouse button, and go to properties

Change format to currency or whatever
