OK..... After searching many sites I can't seem to find any simple way to trash the new ribbon and give my apps a toolbar or Menu I want! If it were not for the free packaging and runtime I would trash 2007 all together.... If I'm thinking correctly there is an option on the XP operating system for "Classic view" why couldn't this have been implemented into Access? How bout doing a free release of the packaging wizard for 2003???? hopefully there are some sharp folks out there that will have some ways to do this.....OK.... I'm done venting..........

As far as I know, there is no intention of providing any "classic" options. I don't like that any more than you do.

You can customize those ribbon thingies. Gunter Avenius site http://www.accessribbon.de/en/?Access_-_Ribbons is a good starting point, with good samples.

There are some that have found market opportunities, and offer commercial solutions. From a quick search, here is one that seems to offer the "classic" menu and toolbars http://www.addintools.com/english/menuoffice/.

Thanks for the links Roy... I saw the Gunter Avenius... and downloaded a sample DB... It looks great....BUT...it also looks like hours of further development time! I'm going to try your other link... it looks good...and the price looks good for Access alone.
I'll add an update.... The second link works fine if you simply don't like the ribbons....gives you back what you saw in 2003... BUT.... The custom toolbars you created in 03 still appear in the "Real Estate eater ribbon".... What I'm looking for is something that after my app is launched in the runtime edition.. you will ONLY see my custom toolbar.

Hi Curtis,

You need to assign your custom menu bar under Access Options in order to see the menu bar in the "classic" state without seeing any Ribbon tabs.

Your referring to "Access Options".... "customize"???? Well, I see I can create a custom menu bar... but I do not see any options to alter the Ribbon..... AND I have to delete items from the standard menubar to just view the custom... picking current DB from dropdown.... But then the it is NOT only for this DB... the standard menubar is then altered for every DB.......... Geeezzzzz.... I really wish I could spend more time developing my apps then trying to find ways to stop 07 from doing things NO ONE likes!

If you have a custom menu, created for instance in a previous version, you can select it under Access Options, Current Database, Menu Bar.

Then also remove the check marks on Allow Full Menus and Allow Built-in Toolbars.

Hi Curtis,

No, that's not quite what I meant. Roy has provided the more specific steps. You need to select your custom menu bar under the Access Options dialog box.

After setting it up, you'll see no trace of the Ribbon.

OK...Just seems to be a problem... I have custom toolbar and menubar created in 2003... But when I follow the steps...Access Options, Current Database, Menu Bar..... it is not there... nothing in the dropdown...just the default.
OK......Looks like you have to make changes in 2003 first.... make sure it is a "MenuBar" ........ works

Hi Curtis,

If you open the database in Access 2003, is your custom menu bar selected under Tools | Startup?

This may seem silly, but say you are opening an ACC 2000/2003 db in 2007 and only have 2007 on your computer. Is there a way to modify your custom 2000/2003 menu bar via 2007? I see a lot of posts stating that you have to make the manu bar changes in a previous version of ACC but so far no mention of how to change in 2007? For example, my menu bar shows up as an Add-In in 2007 and I see no way of making changes to it (i.e. adding buttons etc.) Is there?

I haven't done much developing in 2007 yet, but I do not believe there is any way to alter or edit a menu. It's all ribbons now. Those can be edited, changed and built but imported 03 or prior DB's custom menus will show up in the "addin"
