Hello,
In our company, we are so far using Windows NT with Access-97. Now due to decision for moving to XP, we are migrating slowly people from NT to XP.
However, since the applications are developed in NT and they are shared by some XP and some NT users, what we decided was that we don’t change the application to Access-2002 but use XP’s Access run-time.
When we invoked the application (developed in NT / Access-97) in XP, it was asking whether we are ok for conversion – we said ‘NO’ – the entire thing went fine – the application behavior was also ok.
However, we found that if a NT user has already opened the application, the XP user can not open it at all – the message box says “the database that you are trying to open or convert is currently in use, or you do not have permission to open it exclusively.”
But, if the XP user opens first, the NT users can still open/access the MDB file.
Is there a way to allow both the users (NT and XP) to access the MDB irrespective of who starts first?
Another point – for XP user, the prompt (to convert or not) comes every time they open the MDB. In fact, we are opening the MDB from a VB program (the user don’t open the MDB directly) – do we have a command line for opening a MDB with convert = ‘NO” for Windows XP?
We are in big trouble and appreciate your quick help.
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
