Single to multiple users

Hi,

I need some advices. I have development a database which is a "single user". It means that I can only user in my PC. But now, if I want multiple users, what are the steps to do? Do I need some special tools ? I'am using the simple software Access 2000. Another question, should I develop my interfaces in web or in Access for multiple users. I think if my interfaces are in web presentation, the user don't need the Access software, am I right? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Access works fine when you have a hand full of users sharing the db on a server. Is this what you had in mind? If so all you need to do is put the .mdb on the sever and go. It is recomended that you do a front end / back end.

If you need much more than this you should consider a SQL Server / Frontend or web solution...

It's really a no brainer concept; Just put all your tables in one .mdb then attach to them in the other, front end .mdb.

splitting your db is easy.

first of all, compact and repair your db. then BACKUP!

then go to menubar -> tools / database utilities / databsase splitter.

This will then ask you where you want your back end. If i remember correctly, it will create a backend (ie just the tables and relationships) and your current db will turn into the front end (the forms and queries etc).

All you need to do is store your back end on the server, then take the front end and put it on each machine that wants to use it. Use the linked table manager in database utilities to point the front end to the back end!

Sure - You really need to try and keep the users under control. I try to limit it to about 5 - 10 users logged in at any one time...
