I have a database which is split FE on workstation BE on server (usually a workstation serving the data file pier to pier). With Windows 98 and 2000 everything is OK, with windows XP the opening speed of the database is OK when the first person opens it, but as soon as a second person enters it takes them an age to bring up the opening screen. Once in the db if one user has a table open then the response time for the second user gets worse even if they are opening a different table. I am simply using linked tables connection to the db using a full UNC path.
I have upgraded the files to access XP but this did not help the situation. I have tried using a mapped network drive, no help. I understand that people are having speed problems opening various kind of Office files and the opinions seem to consistantly point to the Windows SP1 putting a slow down on things and until SP2 is released all we can do is live with it.
Can anyone shed any light on this or tell me how to get round it?
