Sorting by an IIf result?

I have an IIf expression in a text box in my report. I want to sort by the result. I can't sort by the field in the expression, because it has many different possibilities that aren't important in this context. How can I do this?
I've tried lots of different things under Sorting/Grouping, but I was hoping there was another way to go about it.

Do your calculations in the underlying query, you'll then be able to sort on them
