Hi there, I sure hope someone can help me out :?)

We replaced our old server & installed a new server and have the MS Access db running on it. Also there are 4 users that access the db via terminal services. any reason this wont work peer to peer /client/server??

However when we choose the printer we want to use for a specific form it does NOT take, it will default back to the windows default printer instead.
I know nothing about MS Access. But installed the server so I am being asked to figure this out as there was no issue with this on the old server.
Here are the steps we take to select a specific printer for a form..
Here is the way a report can have a specific printer attached to it:
From the Main switchboard screen (on any client)
from Select Company Reports column
Client xx Summary (as an example)
xx Journal (you will see a report preview)
With the cursor anywhere on the report itself, Right click Design View
That should show you the design of that specific report.
Then on the top bar of your screen you'll see tabs: Home, Create,.....Page Setup
Click Page Setup, the again Page Setup on the next screen.
Should see Print Options Page Columns
Click on Page, Use Specific Printer then Printer
Select Phaser 2. You could go to Properties and select the specific bin as well.
Use OK to save all the way back to the design.
Click the blue diskette on top of screen on the left side, (that is the save button for the design)
Exit and try that report again.
There are more reports coming off back to back just Close Print till you get to the Main Menu.
We will notice that when we reprint the form Journal that it defaults back to the Windows default printer [we do not want to use this printer for these forms]

UGGG Help ..please :?)
:)

Hey there, welcome to the forum.

So the multiple users have access to the server over a local area network?

If so, the best design is to "split" the database, which is to put all tables in a single file on the server (known as the 'back end'), and distribute the user interface in a separate file (the 'front end'), one copy per workstation, which 'links' to the tables in the be.

Yeah, the way Access reports handle their printer is lame. And if you edit that report on a machine that doesn't have access to the specific printer the setting is lost. The best luck I've had to force this in code is to temporarily change the Application.Printer object, which is the application global printer Access will use, to the specific printer you want. So code like ...

Code:
dim prts(1) as printer [COLOR="Green"]'array of printers, (0) is the orig, (1) is the temp[/COLOR]

    set prts(0) = application.printer
    set prts(1) = application.printers("SomeSpecificOtherPrinter")

    set application.printer = prts(1)
    docmd.openreport "CustomPrinterReport", acViewNormal
    set application.printer = prts(0)
... but you can see from that code that previewing reports using this strategy will be a little tougher. You'll need to swap the original printer back in after the user closes the previewed report. In one system of mine that has to print to a label printer, I just don't allow previews (not a big deal for a label).

Best of luck,

HI THERE! :?_ Thank you for the reply!
Yes , 3 - 4 max users via terminal service, they remote in. They also have the option of running from the local stations. [I have tested both and the speeds are about the same??)

YUP,This puppy is split wit a Front/Backend [YAY]

now this is where I need some help [ I am a newbie to MS Access] .. where or where do i edit this form to add the code you have so generously provided?
I do have access to the printer , its a network/ip printer..

Thank you once again!
