I have been tasked with producing a database to collate information reguarding hours worked, overtime etc etc. That part is pretty simple.

The problem I am facing is producing holiday chart similar to the screen shot provided.

My main question is simple. Is this possible, obviously it will be queries etc but will it be possible to prodcue sometime similar.

At present the poor girl on the reception who looks after the holiday chart has to go through and update 15 different holiday charts due to the number of departments within the company.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you want. Are you wanting to produce 15 different spreadsheets from your database (doable) or a spreadsheet like reports within the database?

Use a crosstab Report

This idea is put all or as much of the data on one form.

What they are currently doing is looking at the excel spreadsheet on the screen to determine who and how many people are off on anyone day.

What they want is a similar system through access whereby they can see a similar screen to the excel screen but through access.

Personally I think is a little too ambitious for access, but I'm always up for a challenge

Hi mousemat,

Instead of taking the time to put this whole db together how about a free database that already does everything you are looking to do? The db is called "Vacation Tracker" and it is available free at this site:

http://www.utteraccess.com/forums/s...d=allposts&Main=180454&Search=true#Post180454

The site is called UtterAccess and in order to download the application all you have to do is become a member (its free also) but at the very least you can look at the interface displayed at the link and see if it would be something you would be interested in using, or at least borrowing code from...

I have used this app and it works great - also the main calendar that you are trying to come up with looks just like the one in the application....

HTH,
Kevin

Yes -- It is possible

Yes -- It is possible, but complex. Not addressing the security of 15 department managers seeing each other's data and assuming that you will want this by dept... The first form will have a combobox selecting the dept. This in turns opens the second form which will be set up similiar to the spreadsheet but with 12 monthly tabs. You will need a query, with a filter, setting up the month for each tab_form. Will the poor young lady that works on all 15 still be the entry point? That is a very simplestic look at one way to accomplish it since you were tasked to do it on forms.

A minute late and an euro short. If his product can do the job, it will save you a lot of work.

Thanks for your response fuzzy.

Yes the poor receptionist will still be the main point of input. As for other dept managers seeing the data, that isnt really an issue at all.

So tabbed form with queries, sounds like a challenge to me.

mousemat,

Did you take a look at the db in my post above..?

This will do everything you want to do without having to go through the troubles of design/development on your own...

At the very least you can look at how the author set up the db "calendar" and adapt this to your own application....

Like I said the db is free and this site is free (site is a nice compliment to this one infact because it has forums on things such as user interface design and the like...)

HTH,
Kev

VacTracker.mdb (Access 2000)

I think this'll give you an idea of what you want done...

I'll keep you posted as to how its going.
