I would like to create a lookup field based on a table. However, I want the data displayed in a particular way. That is, I want 'dummy' fields for headings, and the selectable items are tabbed from these headings.

It is probably best to demonstrate what I mean, so here goes!

Sony
-PSX
-PS2
-PS3
-PSP
Microsoft
-XBox
-XBox 360

In my example above, the bold manufacturer names should be non-selectable. The console names are the selectable values.

A good example is the genre search field at:

http://www.pegi.info/pegi/search.do

However, as mine is for data entry rather than a search, the headings cannot be selectable.

Is this possible?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi -

That's an interesting display. Not quite sure how that's accomplished visually but did see that you can go, using your cited example, to the manufacturer and select. It then displays the manufacturer and then clunks to a halt -- does nothing. Might be a problem there.

To accomplish what you seem to be after, but not with the same visual effect:
1) Select mfg, console with the bound column = column(1), i.e. second column.
This will display: Sony PSX
Sony PS2 ...etc

2) Cascading combos where in combo1 use select a mfg, which then modifies the row source for combo2 to display only those consoles produced by the mfg selected in combo1.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, I thought it might not be as easy as it seemed!

Your solutions are good ones - I think it is probably acceptable to have the manufacturer displayed every time, so that will do! Of course, if anyone has another suggestion, I'd love to hear it! :)

Well, I'd love to hear how someone can accomplish/display retro's cited example. I could well be wrong but suspect that what's displayed is not coded in VBA.

Yes, I'm sure you're right on both points! I feared there wouldn't be a way to do this. Also, I think that site uses some form of Java for its menus (or Javascript).

Perhaps it would be a point to raise with the Office Beta team? Not that they would necessarily be able to implement it! Still, what they HAVE done to Access 2007 is really baffling me - it is like learning from scratch almost!!
