I posted a thread about 2 weeks ago about using dates but am still abit disorientated !.
I work for a Train Operating Company in the UK and would like to use a database to store and retrieve information about train arrivals and departures from my station, I understand the tables and relationships bit but can't get my head around how we can store information about train times for future dates and in real time !
We have a different timetable for Mon-Fri,Sat and Sun, and these are the timetables we usually work from.
Some trains run everyday day at the same time to the same destination and others only run Sat ,do I need to have a table with days of the week i.e. 1=Mon,2=Tues etc and how can I show if a train runs Mon to Fri everyday.
Sometimes though on certain dates the timetable can change drastically or just a little and amendments are needed for just that one day and then the next day the timetable would revert back to usual.
We also get changes in real time throughout a normal day that need to be recorded and saved !
We record every trains arrival and departure time and and record whether it was early ,late or on Schedule.
Is it possible to automatically be able to save and retrieve data about forthcoming trains without having to type in each train each day with a different date as this would be very time consuming, i.e. Could we retrieve from the database a train timetable and amend and enter info into it by date and save it each day and then load the next days timetable automatically can you explain if poss how this could be done ?
We need to record these trains by date I'm assuming and need to plan ahead as well can anyone help with this !
