Sub-reports and columns

I have a main reports with a few sub-reports and have run into a problem with columns. For efficiency of space, I would like to a have a sub-reports print in two columns. The sub reports is formatted (through page setup) as two columns and it prints as two columns when run independently. But when I bring it into the main report and print, it does not maintain the sub report's two columns.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I suppose that the second column can not be displayed because the frame of the subreport is not large enough.
