Subform 'Flicker'

Hi

I have a database with its main form consisting of eight subforms, two of which have a Master/Child links to one or more of the other six.

I'm getting a noticeable 'flicker' effect on these two subforms, one of which feeds off a Query, the other straight from a Table.

I just wonder if this is to be expected (running a Subform with Query data perhaps?) or is there something I can or should do to control this.

Perhaps linked to this same symptom the word "Calculating . . . " is pretty much ever-present in the bottom-left whilst the Form is in view?

Any ideas?

I might try substituting the Query with a Table and see if that quietens things down any.

I'm not using any "D..." formulas at present ... in fact no formulas at all right now.

When do you notice the flicker, is it only when navigating record to record or is it sort of semi permanent.

The flicker is always there ... evn after a prolonged period of inactivity on the Form.

What's your setup, is the database stand alone or FE/BE split network setup, if the former does it have a SQL backend, since we moved to a SQL BE, performance has increased significantly
If it's the stand alone then can only suggest what Pat has already

Right now the Database is in its development stage and not yet split. I will split the database closer to the deployment phase of the project. When deployed it will simply run as an A2007 database.

This is a very "heavy" form.

As Pat said you have too much on the screen.

A user can only do one thing at a time so you only need to show them what is necessary. The way it appears now is that you are overloading every one and every thing.

Someimes less is best.

You guys might of course be right re "heavy" ... but I am trying to achieve a one-stop User Interface screen and whilst the 'flicker' is both noticeable and annoying (to me at leat) it fortunately doesn't appear to affect the response speed when selections are changed.

Can you test on a much faster machine with a high quality Video Card. I would think that this would help highlight the problem.

With regard to the busy screen. Only you and your people can judge if it is suitable or not. Bear in mind you only have a casual look while the users may be looking at this for hours on end every day. Is it too much for them.

Update:

I moved the database from a Windows XP/Access 2003/2GB Memory workstation to a Windows 7/Access 2007/4GB laptop over the weekend and the 'flicker' has disappeared!

Not sure which element of the laptop configuration has cured the 'flicker', but happy enough that it's gone.
