Hi,

I am facing to a problem again and again, when I try to open my database, which I have previously set up a password for. Occasionally it happens that Access doesn't request the password when I open the database. (The password was set up by creating a system file on the server and making other people to join to it).
I have realized that sometimes the database creates a new system file on my laptop and automatically joins to that one instead of sticking to the one which is on the server. I have to rejoin to the system file each time when Access doesn't recognize me as an Admin and doesn't ask password.

My colleagues will soon use this database and I don't want them to face to the same problem. I made all of them to join to the system file on the server, but they work on a laptop and I am worried that the whole security with passwords is not valid any more if they can open it by joining to a 'self-created' system file.

Is there anybody, who can help with this please?

Susanna

1. You should not have people joining the workgroup.

2. You should set it up so they open the database with a shortcut instead.

3. If they join the workgroup then EVERYTHING they create from that point out is under that security unless they go through the hassle every time of rejoining their default System.mdb workgroup.

4. If someone can get in without going through your shortcut, then you haven't set up Access security correctly. It requires you to set up an admin person and join them to the admins group (notice the s on the end) and to take the ADMIN user OUT of the ADMINS GROUP. If you are logging in as ADMIN, then the default for anyone, as long as they have not joined your workgroup file, can open the database and do anything they want in it. ADMIN is the default. Put yourself in there as something OTHER THAN ADMIN as the user name and then place that user into the ADMINS GROUP. Then when that is done, pull out the ADMIN user name from the ADMINS group.

Next, you can use the free HEADWAY SHORTCUT BUILDER to create a shortcut that you can distribute to people in order to open the database correctly and need to log in like they should.
