I've just been upgraded to Office 2003 (from 2000) and I'm trying to create an append query. I have three tables but only two are displayed on the table list drop down. I can type in the missing table and the query works but I don't understand why all the available tables are not being shown. Does this happen for anyone else and what can I do?

TIA

Karen

What dropdown? A combo box list? A listbox list? Are you referring to the object icons you see in the database window?

If the problem is in the window, the object might be hidden. Unhide it from the database window menu.

Its the drop down on the append query box. When you change the query type from select to append you get a message box which asks for the table to append records to.

Looking at it further, it seems to be the first table (alphabetically) that isn't listed as an option.

Karen,

I just tested this. It seems as though if a database object is hidden in the DB window, it will not appear in that drop down list you see after you click the "Append Query" button. So, that's for sure, one cause of this. Check to see if that object that is missing from the dropdown is hidden in the DB window.

I agree, if the table property is set to hidden, then it doesn't appear as an option to append query when you change a query to append to. However, the first table isn't set to hidden.

Now, how do I unhide the tables I hide to test this?!

Hmmm...Not sure!

Do it the same way you hide them. A right click anywhere in the window should do it. there should be a menu option or a checkbox that says something like "show hidden objects". What version do you use?

But the table isn't there for me to get to its properties. Right clicking isn't giving me anything about showing hidden objects.

Version 2003.

TOOLS > OPTIONS > "SHOW" TAB > (isn't there a checkbox on this tab about hiding objects?)

Hi,

I have experienced the same issue. The first table listed in my db is not displayed in the drop down list when selecting a table to append to or in the drop down list in a 'make table' query. If I create a table which places itself first alphabetically in the tables db, it will not appear in the drop down list, but the table which was first (not available before) now appears!

Any help would be appreciated. I have just created a 'dummy' table which is first alphabetically to get around this.

Thanks,

Handall

You wouldn't by chance be on Access 2003 Service Pack 1, would you?

Hi,

Thanks for the rapid reply. I have SP3 installed. The funny thing is that the first table will appear in the list to 'show table' when adding tables to a query, just not in the lists as described before.

Regards,

Handall

ps. I have tried 'compact and repair' database from 'Tools' as well as 'Detect and Repair' from the help menu.

SP3 has some major issues and it has been the general advice to NOT have SP3 installed due to those issues. This may be one of those things that is causing your problem.

Thanks Bob,

Is there a way to roll back to a previous sp?

If I must reinstall, which SP, in your opinion is best to stick with?

Handall

You have to uninstall Office completely and then reinstall (making sure your auto updates aren't enabled) and then you can update to SP2.

Bob, Thanks again for the very quick reply. I have the stand-alone Access app and I have already un-installed and re-installed. You are correct! The new install has corrected the issue. I am going to apply SP2 and hope for the best.

Best regards,

Handall
