I saw this story :- If you talk to yourself while doing chores, you probably have these 6 rare psychological strengths

and as I have been known to chatter away to myself , and as I get older I am less self-conscious about it and do it all the more ! I thought I'll have a read ...

then I saw this :- By saying, “Alright, next I’ll vacuum the living room,”

No, No, No --- No, I'm never ever going to say that !!

I thought all software developers talked to themselves.
If they didn't, they'd never arrive at a solution.
Apart from the fact that when they write a bug into the code, they will accept telling themselves what a silly old sod they are much better from themselves than someone else.

Not QUITE talking to myself, but ...

When I was still a Navy contractor, the folks around me would overhear my conversations with the machine. Things like "Machine, I know where you are plugged in. Start working." Also, "I know someone who can arrange for you to be wiped out and re-imaged." And "You ungrateful cur, I programmed you better than that."

Now that I'm retired and at home, I talk to myself now and then. Or at least it seems that way, since my wife won't enter the conversation when I'm chattering away at my desktop machine.

I guess it all boils down to what you are talking to yourself about. If it is negative or destructive in nature, then it's probably not good for you. If it is positive and related to achieving a worthy goal, then by all means, talk all your want. Don't give a voice to that little invisible devil on your shoulder.

What worries me when I talk to myself is I still don't get get a sensible answer!

And I am very careful when I talk to my computer as I remember the first rule of dealing with machines - never let them know you are in a hurry.

Lately, my dear, long-suffering wife has said I've started to man-splain, which she doesn't like.

I don't know if I'm doing that doc, but what I do know is if I hit on certain triggers, she reads me the laundry list of faults and failures I had in the past and she loves going way back.

Mike, I know what you mean. Even when getting a TOP SECRET security clearance or during an IRS audit, the U.S. government only goes back ten years. Wives remember much longer than that.

The trouble with man-splaining is that the most common cry I heard from females ( in my post retirement job doing admin in a school) was that "nobody has shown me how to do it!". An even bigger crime was to suggest that they read the manual!

I talked to myself far more than I talk to other people. Is that too much?

Talking to yourself is OK, it's the answering I wonder about ;)
Then I might be screwed in that case. I often ask myself questions as I'm working and then ultimately answer them too.
