Don't know how many people here are from the US....any plans for Thanksgiving?

Let me ask a question...I was invited to a Thanksgiving party. Just found out that the hosts (a couple) don't drink wine (they don't drink alcohol if their younger child is around- personal preference thing). It's about 12 people party, me included. Only probably two-three other people that may enjoy the wine with their dinner. I personally wanted to bring one of my wines as a part of my personal offering specifically for them..now I am rethinking it since they won't be drinking it and replacing the wine with something more 'appropriate', which is something like an appetizer before the meal, would this be ok?

Ha...don't know if this is the right forum to ask these types of questions, but hey..it's the watercooler!

Although us dutchees do not celebrate thanksgiving as of 1626 ( New Netherland which is New Jersey to Delaware area), since we sold that NN
to the Brits for 1 $ ( how can anyone be so stupid !), I would recommend
some of the following as an appropriate alternative :

French Hors d'œuvre
Sazerac
Pisco sour
Latest CD of Richard Bona

.
.

When is thanksgiving?

Will be on the fourth Thursday of November in the USA , and the second Monday of October in Canada , which is sort of the same period that Rich quoted. ;)

Why not take them a pizza in case they get fed up with turkey?

So no Yankies about today then :D - a bit of peace and quiet at last instead of loads of thoughtless comments irritating everyone.

HEHEHE
Use your imagination.

Thanksgiving in the US is not unlike the period between Christmas and New Years in the UK. The majority of people will not be back to work until Monday. Pretty much everything is closed.
Like the UK there will be an abundance of football matches played during this period with very little else on the telly.
Thanksgiving is a much bigger event in the US than in Canada. It generally signals the start of the Christmas shopping season. I know people born in the US who have lived in Canada for 20 years. They still take this period off work, either as days off or as vacation. They will generally visit family back home.
Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier since Thanksgiving is essential a harvest festival and our crops come in earlier.

So what exactly does the average American do on thanksgiving? what are they thankful for?

Thanks to the world for hating us

Thanks to GWB for getting 3,000 of our troops killed

Thanks for getting us trillions in debt on a war we'll never win

Thanks for chucking me out of hospital when my insurance runs out

Thanks for all my guns so I can kill things randomly when the mood takes

Thanks for the money so I can teach the kids bribery and corruption

Its a mystery I'm afraid. . . . . is it some religious festival perhaps? - you know, a special American one that no-one else is invited to;)

An American could never be English.

Well we started out that way, but fortunately we evolved.

Into an inventive, industrious, and giving society, that kept you from speaking Russian.
