Thanksgiving....

Don't know how many people here are from the US....any plans for Thanksgiving?

Let me ask a question...I was invited to a Thanksgiving party. Just found out that the hosts (a couple) don't drink wine (they don't drink alcohol if their younger child is around- personal preference thing). It's about 12 people party, me included. Only probably two-three other people that may enjoy the wine with their dinner. I personally wanted to bring one of my wines as a part of my personal offering specifically for them..now I am rethinking it since they won't be drinking it and replacing the wine with something more 'appropriate', which is something like an appetizer before the meal, would this be ok?

Although us dutchees do not celebrate thanksgiving as of 1626 ( New Netherland which is New Jersey to Delaware area), since we sold that NN
to the Brits for 1 $ ( how can anyone be so stupid !), I would recommend

Thanksgiving in the US is not unlike the period between Christmas and New Years in the UK. The majority of people will not be back to work until Monday. Pretty much everything is closed.
Like the UK there will be an abundance of football matches played during this period with very little else on the telly.
Thanksgiving is a much bigger event in the US than in Canada. It generally signals the start of the Christmas shopping season. I know people born in the US who have lived in Canada for 20 years. They still take this period off work, either as days off or as vacation. They will generally visit family back home.
Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier since Thanksgiving is essential a harvest festival and our crops come in earlier.
