I think Cuba was '62 and Korea 1950-54. The nearest I come come up with to 1957 was Suez 1956, the crisis which changed France's relationship with the US forever.

I never pointed the finger of BLAME AT America for the suicides, don't attribute remarks to me that I haven't made.
As for the "historians" there are as many as you cite that actually are of the opinion that Truman dropped the bomb to try and ward off the Russians.
Who the hell's Dorothy, by the way
now Rich, we all know there are those in each camp and group that are in the extreme. I think myself, Cindy and several of the other American posters are always, or at least in the 95th percentile, polite and well mannered.
*Apologies to anyone I did not name as being polite, I was just typing the names I could remember off the top of my head*

Both Cindy and Tess (as longer term members) both have my respect at their ability to hold constructive discussions without getting into a slanging match.
I have said that most (not all) Americans I have met have been polite and well mannered. They say 'sir' and 'ma'am and appear to be ok people.
Take Elvis for example, a man of his stature as the superstar of all time still called reporters 'sir and 'ma'am, I think that is good. It's in his upbringing. Maybe if we did a bit more of that in the UK, we'd not have so much teenage violence and thuggery.
