Hey guys dont know if this is a 'fixable' problem but...
I have a form that kicks off around 30+ pass thru queries each existing in its
own loop to get the proper variables for the WHERE stmt. The sql string is then set to a qrydef updated and appended to the corresponding table. This goes on 10 times for each query. This works okay and the data is created; however, during execution my screen goes white and does not show anything. Taskmgr shows not responding and it appears as if nothing is happening.
is there a way to stop this? Please let me know if further explanation is needed or of any way to fix this issue.

I am sure it has been answered before but in my searches I uncovered nothing.

The screen goes white with no user interaction? Or do you mean if the user does something else while this is running then comes back to Access, the screen is white? I've never seen the former, the latter I have.

This is a good example of why Windows Vista is going to be better, at least in this respect. Instead of using the Windows CPU to render graphics for the programs, DirectX 10 will do it via the graphics processing unit, hence leaving more of the windows cpu to do the actual work, while giving a better graphical user experience (can you tell I just attended the Windows Vista/Office 2007 launch event yesterday?) :D

There is nothing you can do about what you're experiencing. This happens when you run a pass-through query (and I run a lot of those against a giant, multi-terabyte DB2 database). Basically, Windows relinquishes control and won't refresh the Access screen until it gets data back from the pass-through query. The best you can do if it's confusing your users is to throw up a message box that says something like, "It's normal for the Access screen to turn white and for Access to say it is Not Responding. Do NOT close Access."

You can still open other applications and even another copy of Access if you like. Just that one copy of Access will be that way until the pass-through query is done running.

I was reading something, somewhere about using SysCmd to show a progress meter. I'm not sure if this helps or is relevant - but maybe worth a mention.

Unfortunately, I have not used it and know nothing about it other than it exists!

pbaldy; it is the latter but from what I have read it is just going to happen.

moniker; thanks for the personal ref - at least I know I am not totally loosing it. will probably just kick off another
db with a max form just to show something is going on.

bob; thanks for the vista update

system; I do have the progress bar on other apps but for this one not gonna do it.

Thanks again.
