Hi there, wondering if anyone can help me.

i have a database that is going to be shared across a network server. What i would like(if possible).

USER 1 has opened up the Microsoft Access database and has spent 15 Minutes entering information. USER 2 then goes to open the same database, but gets a message saying something along the lines of "Database already in use, please try again later.

I Hope ive expressed what im trying to do.

Any thoughts would be greatly appricated.

Have you opened the db in exclusive mode? Tools>Options...>Advanced tab on the right side.

shared is worrying - you have split the database between code and tables havent you. Front End/ Back End

Every user needs a separate front end

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

Ruralguy..what would i need to do after i've changed from shared mode to exclusive mode?

Thanks

You do not want to be in exclusive mode. I thought you wanted this to be shared? How do you have your record locking set up?

I Have the record Locking set up as;

Default Record Locking - No Locks
Open Records using Record Level Locking - Ticked box

i havnt changed anything under the Tools - Options - Advanced tab, as im not too sure what im doing.

maybe you could shed some light on what i need to do.

thanks

Each form has a [Recordset Type] and [Record Locks] property. Have you looked at those?

Yes, the Default Open mode is SHARED.

every form is Recordset Type - Dynaset
Record Locks - No Locks

Thanks
