Too many fields

Hi there

Im sure this is a simple question. I'm working in Access XP and have a number of tables. In one however I have 13 fields and try to create a 14th in design view. However when it comes to saving it it says too many fields defined. When I look at help it says this message appears when I try to deal with more than 255 fields. Since I only have 13 fields I don't understand why it says this. Any ideas?

Also Just wondering if anyone knows if you can change the default search format. ie when I do ctrl-f or edit find in a table the first time I open it, it defaults to looking in a particular field and matching the whole field. Can I change the default for that table to look in that table and matching any part of field?

Thanks for any advice given.

you can set which field your table starts in by default by selecting the TAB ORDER on the properties page.

If you set the field you wish to start n to 0 then when you open the table the cursor will automatically go there.

Did you create the table from scratch or is it a copied one from another Db that you then amend fields?

or

Try creating a new table and see if you can get the 14 fields in it.

Try Compress and Repair

I have had a similar problem and the solution that I have found through talking with others here was to use the compress and repair feature. When you add, modify or delete table entries access does not automatically reset.

Give it a try

Hope it helps
