Hi,
I think I am pretty much washed up, but thought I would post this. I have a backnd database that I think became currupted and would not complete the compact & repair routine. This backend database is on a network and seemed to still be working fine with the front-end clients. I think one client was abruptly disconnected and caused an error on the backend, leaving an .ldb file when nobody was signed on, to the point where nobody could get in. When I tried to open the backend directly, I got the error message stating the datbase was currupted and needed to be repaired, and when I tried to repair the process halted with the standard Microsoft Report error.

I then tried the Jet Utility to compact & repair and got the error message " The instruction at ox1b019128 referrerenced memory at ox021b9000. The memory could not be read.

I assume I am dead in the water ?

Any Thoughts ?

This could be a Service Pack Patch you may need.

I had this using NT4.0

Get the latest patch set on.

Have you tried rebooting the server?... usually all the temporary files like LDB's are cleared when you reboot.

All of the users listed in the .ldb file need to reboot their PCs to ensure their connection to the db is broken. You can open the .ldb file with Notepad.exe to view it. As already mentioned, rebooting the server should also free the db. I have seen where a db is locked up if a user is not able to exit and close the db [include the Access shell] properly.

HTH
