Update/append query

I have a form with contact information for the membership and in this form is a subform that lets us know what meetings any particular member has attended. I receive their registration information via an Excel spreadsheet that import into the database. My question is: is there a query that will look up from the Excel spreadsheet if any particular member that is registered is already in the database and add their meeting information into the sub and also look up those that are not in the database an those to the database? Thx....I really need to know this by Wednesday evening if possible.
