Hi All, I have a simple database that was originally intended for my use only, but has kind of morphed into something that others want to use as well. I originally wrote it in Access 2003 on my laptop, and stored it on the company server. Now I am unsure how to keep my local copy and the server copy in sync. I don't always have access to the company server and it has happened that mine, or others' data has been lost due to changes to the database on one side or the other. How is it typically handled, in this kind of situation? Can anyone point me in a good direction? Thanks in advance.

If you are still using ac2003 than Replication may be a solution for you.

Thanks for your response. I'm working on my laptop with Access 2003, but the remote apps server (which will be the location of the database) has Access 2007. Do you think there will be a compatibility issue...?

ac2007 does *not* support Replication. That might get in the way! :D

Seriously, how many people use the system and are they all on ac2003 or do some just log onto the server and use it there (which is not a good idea BTW)?

THIS IS WRONG.

Access 2007 and Access 2010 fully support support Jet replication for MDBs. It is only the ACCDB format that doesn't support replication.

Please educate yourself about these issues before mouthing off about things you don't understand.

Do you need to edit the data on the laptop disconnected from the network? If not, you don't need replication -- you just need to split the app.

Your app should be split no matter what, replication or not.

Glad to see you on this forum David and I think you should switch to decaf for a while. ;)
