i have an access database that is hoping to link to certain tables in a PERVASIVE SQL database via odbc. i plan to link certain tables and draw data from the pervasive db and store it into access db every night. i'm new to access, and so would it automatically check and dump duplicates? is it a better to import instead? i only need certain data from the pervasive db and not all.

If you are linked to an external datasource and you are updating a local Access table or set of tables you need to write the update and/or append queries to do your table updates. It is up to you to write queries to grab unique records.

There are many ways that you get data from an external source, the "best" method to use depends on your needs.

If you need help with writing queries for data updates you can post an example of what you are trying to do on this same thread for further help.
