you're basically putting lipstick on a pig and hoping all the gremlins you have accumulated over time go away.
I am just 'thinking' of treating myself to a new laptop, but what is putting me off, is moving the programs to the new PC.My machine isn't capable of upgrading without a registry hack and I don't think I can add the required device. To say that I am livid over this just doesn't cover it. 3.4 GHz x 64 bit x 16 GB but it won't run Win11 because of some stupid TPM. Makes me want to nuke Redmond, but I left my nuke in my other pants at the dry cleaners.
Thats why I went the windows update route. I have a lot of software.what is putting me off, is moving the programs to the new PC.
It's weird because it sounds like system resources are running in the background. When booting from the media creation stick it prevents resources from interfering with the installation. The whole installation shouldn't be more than ten minutes tops.Well that didn't go so smoothly.
It made it to 98% and froze again. It also screwed up my flash drive and made it read only.
I didn't have another flash drive that was big enough so had to go shopping. On a good note they had a 2 pack of 32 Gb on sale for $16.
From there it was smooth sailing. I do notice a bit of a speed increase with the clean install.
Just a few more hours of reinstalling software and we're good to go.
I strongly suggest a clean install not an update.I'm Ready to upgrade to Win 11 --- any last warnings?
I believe rollbacks only affect "updates" whereas fresh installs cannot be rolled back. You would need a fresh install of Windows 10.You only get a set period though, don't you, to rollback?
I would have traded up, but even with an i7 and 12GB on this laptop, it says it is not ready, and I am not going to jump through hoops just to install it, so I will stick with windows 10 until I get a new computer. By that time, it will probably be Windows 14![]()
