i used the user level security wizard with an access project but i want it to be solely for this project - however it seems that any access project requires the password from the workgroup i created - how do i get rid of this?

Hopefully you created a new workgroup to base this security on. If so, then you need to go rejoin your default workgroup. Then you won't have to enter the password for all dbs.

Then you either need to join the other workgroup to get in the secure db or setup a shortcut that first opens Access, opens the db, then joins the workgroup.

I was under the impression that i joined a new workgroup but now i cant find the default workgroup - obviously i'm in trouble - guess i'll have to delete everything the wizard created and start all over - great!

Whoaaa... Slow down tiger ;)

Don't delete everything. Have the os search for the file 'system.mdw'

That's the default workgroup.

Yep, did that...claims i've modified it in the last hour!

Ok. All that means is a little more work needs to be done. First thing you need to do is eliminate all the restraints on this workgroup. Open up your db and make sure that the user 'Admin' is a member of the Admin group. Then you'll need to delete the password for it.

MAKE SURE ADMIN IS PART OF THE ADMIN GROUP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE!

Then delete all groups except Admin and User

Then delete all users except Admin.

I attached a text file that gives an outline of how to setup security.

Thanks for all your help - i think i'm messing with something a bit over my head - i'm having a look at the text file+will have a go anyway - the project i'm trying to use the security on is referenced on a separate drive to that of the systems workgroup - that makes a bit more complex....and i wont be able to reference the c: drive as the project will be run on a separate network to the one i'm using now

Usually what I do in that case is place the new workgroup file in the same folder as the backend. Then place the frontend on the users computer. This creates almost a perfect security scenario.
