Validating a combo box with a number field type

Is it possible to validate a combo box with this field type? I have all other validations working but they are text boxes...I have searched here and the web but unable to find the answer? I want to make sure the field is not left empty, other cbo boxes work but are of a short text field type.

Thanks for any help, all comments and suggestions are welcome.

P.S. - My form's control source is a table.

If the field shouldn't be left empty, it should be set to required in the table.

Limit to list is set to yes on field properties for all number type fields, in the main table, required is set for all fields.

If the field the combo is bound to is set to required, you shouldn't be able to save a record without making a selection. Are you saying you can? Can you attach the db here?

Solved...what was holding up the validation on my combo box field was the
default value in the tbl being set to 0, not sure how that setting got there but I removed it and all works well. Thanks pbaldy, you helped point me in the right direction and made me think.
