Does anyone know how to download data from Google sheets in an automated fashion with Excel 2010 (not 2013 an above, as many solutions seem to require), and without installing anything special or an api?

I thought I've used the simple method (sheets>publish to web>single sheet>csv) by Data > from Text in Excel with the published link from Google, but it does not seem to work and I am using 2010.

Is there anything missing in my assessment of the options that are out there?

Ok, I got it worked out.

Doing a straight Data > From Web (or TXT) > paste link from Sheets......Did not work in my 2010 version, but then I installed the free Power Query add-in and it worked like a charm.

Solved. Thanks for looking : )

actually using Google Script or using vba to automate excel to refresh a data connection?
the latter has been possible for a long time but i've always felt there is a lot of potential to make it better and less dependent on add-ins, powerquery, unsecured Sheets publishing, etc.

sorry, i looked at the mentioned link but didn't see the code?
