I have a HP Pavillion Laptop runing Vista Home Premium, with SP1. Generally contrary to opinion I have experienced very few issues with the OS.

However I have one issue which I cannot seem to resovle. It centres around 4 Important & 1 recommended updates from Microsoft:
KB950582
KB951978
KB952709
KB955020
KB940157 (Recommended)

Initially I found, everytime I powered down my computer it told me it had updates to install, i quickly realised this was not alot of updates from Microsoft but a problem with already downloaded ones.

The install process goes through on each, no errors and completes by telling me all updates were installed ok. When i check the install log they are there. However when i check for updates again the same updates are listed as needing to be installed. Checked installed log again updates are there, now multiple entries for them.

Seeems as when the updates are installed that some how when the check runs to see what updates are required it doesn't recognize they are there.

I have downloaded the updates invidually and installed manually, same problems.

I have turned automatic updates off for now, subsequent updates install ok, but the computer still keeps informing me these remaining updates are outstanding.

Any ideas??????

Thanks

I had this once on XP but now I do all my updates selectively but iirc you can safely delete the updates history by deleting the file Datastore.edb from Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore, this won't delete the updates just the history and you can always restore it from the recycle bin if you need to.

See if that helps.
