I linked an Excel table and now, in both the table and report, the cell is limiting itself to 255 characters, even though the Excel cell has more. I checked the "data type" and it says "memo" but it keeps truncating to "text".

Where is this limit coming from and can I change the linked table so it won't truncate the text?

thanks

The limit is coming from Excel, unforunately you can't change this.
Importing/linking with Ecxel will result in a 'text' 255 field. So will a CVS incidently.

Memo fields are really not an Excel thing, MS says that 32,000 is the limit for a cell, but clearly this rule can broken a lot of the time.

Maximum length of cell contents (text) 32,000 characters
Maximum length of formula contents 1,024 characters
